Palace sink Swans to secure cup passage

Crystal Palace progressed into the third round of the Carabao Cup with a 1-0 win at Swansea City.

Alexander Sorloth netted his first goal in Palace colours in the second half to settle an even contest at the Liberty Stadium.

Jeffrey Schlupp and Martin Kelly were the only players who kept their places from Sunday's starting XI against Watford in a much-changed side.

Manager Roy Hodgson handed a debut to new goalkeeper Vicente Guaita and Acadamy defender Ryan Inniss made his first senior appearance.

Few clear-cut opportunities were created in the opening period, with Palace failing to capitalise from a flurry of corners.

Guaita made a smart block at his near post to keep out Yan Dhanda's effort but it was the Londoners who went ahead on 70 minutes.

Jairo Riedewald's low pass to Solorth in the area was collected by the Norway international who turned and fired into the back of the net.

Swans keeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt then saved a strike from Max Meyer, before denying substitute Sullay Kaikai from point-blank range.

Palace: Guaita, Wan-Bissaka, Kelly (Ward, 62), Inniss, Schlupp (Townsend 62), Meyer, Riedewald, Kouyate, Puncheon, Williams (Kaikai 76), Sorloth.

Not used: Henry, Woods, McGregor.

Swansea: Nordfeldt, Carroll (Asoro, 77), James, Grimes, John, Naughton, Byers, Dhanda, Baker-Richardson (Cullen, 77), Harries, Cooper (Reid, 61).

Not used: Mulder, McKay, Maric, Lewis.
