Crystal Palace got their first point on the road this season after a goalless draw at Brighton.

Though they have failed to score in nine straight away Premier League games, Roy Hodgson's team will be happy with a first clean sheet of the campaign.

The game was a scrappy derby affair, with few moments of quality, but it was the visiting Londoners who created the first chance.

Wayne Hennessey's long kick was flicked on by Christian Benteke, who got a return pass by Wilfried Zaha, and the Belgian's shot was blocked before Zaha saw the rebound saved by keeper Matt Ryan.

Brighton defender Lewis Dunk perhaps should have done better with a free header off a corner that Hennessey was equal to before the Wales stopper saved well from Jose Izquierdo.

After the break, Brighton forced a flurry of dangerous corners and they almost scored off one as Dunk's back-heel felt the side-netting.

Another flag kick resulted with Shane Duffy hitting the roof of the net as Hennessey again looked uncomfortable with the set-pieces.

Dale Stephens rifled just past the post, while Andros Townsend cleared Glenn Murray's attempt from another corner off the line as the hosts turned the screw.

Palace had some half chances to find the net but lacked any cutting edge in the final third and in the end had to settle for the draw.

Brighton: Ryan, Bruno, Duffy, Dunk, Suttner, Knockaert, Gross (Brown 81), Stephens, Propper, Izquierda (March 70), Murray (Hemed 84).

Not used: Krul, Schelotto, Goldson, Kayal.

Palace: Hennessey, Ward, Sakho, Tomkins, Schlupp, Loftus-Cheek, Milivojevic, Cabaye (McArthur 65), Townsend, Zaha, Benteke.

Not used: Speroni, Van Aanholt, Fosu-Mensah, Dann, Puncheon, Sako.
