Alan Pardew got his Premier League campaign with Crystal Palace off to a flying start with a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

Pardew opted to keep Glenn Murray up front, but brought Jason Puncheon in for Wilfried Zaha. Barry Bannan kept his place in the team after a great performance against Dover Athletic.

Murray had Palace's best chance of the first half when he was put clean through on goal by James McArthur but his shot was blocked by keeper Hugo Lloris.

Four minutes into the second half, Tottenham took the lead through Harry Kane, whose arrowed shot found the bottom left corner of Julian Speroni's goal.

However the Spurs goal appeared to galvanise the Eagles and on 69 minutes they were level. Joe Ledley was brought down in the box by Benjamin Stambouli and Dwight Gayle slotted the resulting penalty with aplomb.

Palace took the lead in the 80th minute after brilliant work by substitute Wilfried Zaha who turned Kyle Walker inside-out on the left and passed the ball across the goal for Puncheon to curl into the bottom right corner in front of the Holmesdale faithful.

The Eagles held out and gave Pardew his second victory from two games and move the team up to 15th in the Premier League table.
