Crystal Palace's winning run came to end with a 2-0 defeat at home to Manchester City.

City were too strong for the Eagles, who were on a streak of five successive victories, and victory for the Citizens puts them back in the title picture.

Palace got off to a poor start by conceding with just four minutes gone on the clock. Yaya Toure's inch-perfect chipped cross into the area saw Edin Dzeko nip in between Scott Dann and Adrian Mariappa to head in.

The early goal gave City confidence and they went in search of another soon after as Vincent Kompany headed wide from a corner.

The match was effectively over two minutes before half-time when City added another as Toure played a one-two with Dzeko before curling a left-foot effort beyond Julian Speroni.

In second half, Speroni made a great stop with his legs to keep out Sergio Aguero's shot that took a wicked deflection off Scott Dann.

Palace huffed and puffed but rarely threatened Joe Hart's goal despite sub Tom Ince's late claims for a penalty.

Palace: Speroni, Mariappa, Dann, Delaney, Ward, Puncheon, Jedinak, Ledley, Bolasie (Ince 73), Jerome (Murray 69), Chamakh (Gayle 69).

Not used: Parr, Dikgacoi, Gabbidon, Hennessey.

Man City: Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Demichelis, Kolarov, Milner, Javi Garcia, Toure (Fernandinho 66) , Nasri, Dzeko (Negredo 88), Aguero (Jovetic 79).

Not used: Richards, Lescott, Clichy, Pantilimon.
