Jerome Thomas had two great chances to score
Managerless Crystal Palace ended their losing streak with a goalless draw at home to Everton.
The Eagles had been on a seven-game losing run and should have wrapped up all three points but fluffed some gilt-edged chances.
Everton, who were looking to break into the top four, had the first chance of the game as Leon Osman shanked wide of the goal. Then a move involving Kevin Mirallas, via Stephen Pienaar and Leighton Baines saw Osman fire off target.
Palace keeper Julian Speroni palmed a drive from Mirallas past the post but Palace took control of the game from here.
They should have taken the lead when Jerome Thomas sent over an inviting cross for Kagisho Dikgacoi who headed back across goal instead of the target from four yards.
Then Everton keeper Tim Howard had to be at full stretch to palm out a Thomas curler seven minutes before the break.
Shortly after, Marouane Chamakh somehow headed Barry Bannan's cross wide of the upright from only a few yards out.
After the break, Yannick Bolasie sent through Thomas with just Howard to beat, but the winger chipped his shot off target.
The Toffees almost snatched an undeserved goal but Phil Jagielka's header from Baines' corner smacked against the bar.
Palace picked up an important point and first clean sheet of the season but will look back thinking it should have been all three.
