Murray at the double

March 9 2013

Glenn Murray rescued a point for Crystal Palace to draw 2-2 at home to Leeds and keep their automatic promotion hopes alive.

In a first half which was totally dominated by the Eagles, it was no surprise to see them take the lead in the 27th minute.

Murray had two efforts previously saved by Leeds keeper Paddy Kenny but made it third time lucky when he headed home Jon Williams' cross from close range.

But Leeds almost went in at the break with an unlikely goal just before the half finished after Julian Speroni saved Paul Green's shot and Luke Varney's follow-up was cleared off the line by Mile Jedinak.

Wilfried Zaha and Stephen Dobbie had chances to increase the lead but the away side levelled matters with a strike from Steve Morison on 56 minutes.

Dobbie had two good efforts off target but Morison put Leeds 2-1 up after the Palace defence failed to clear Kenny's long punt and the striker rifled past Speroni.

However, six minutes from time Murray scored again to equalise with a far post finish from Damien Delaney's cross for his 30th goal of the season.

It's now 18 home matches without defeat for the Eagles and the draw moves them to one point off second.
