Posh win keeps Palace in hunt

Crystal Palace kept their play-off hopes alive with a 1-0 home win against Peterborough.

Mile Jedinak scored his first goal for the club and victory means the Eagles are now eight points off the top six places.

They could have gone in at the break one or two goals down as Posh dominated the opening exchanges.

Julian Speroni had to be alert to push over Tyrone Barnett's shot, before making another save from the striker.

Darren Ambrose blasted over the bar for the hosts, while Tommy Rowe headed off target for Posh.

But it was Palace who went closest to scoring after Ambrose's strike was deflected onto the post by defender Gabriel Zakuani, and as the ball rolled along the line, it was hacked clear.

Dougie Freedman's half-time team talk seemed to inspire Palace who were rejuvenated after the interval.

Jedinak had appeals for a penalty turned down, Paddy McCarthy put a free header wide, Chris Martin slashed an effort off target and Zaha saw a shot sail past the post.

Posh goalkeeper Paul Jones then saved a header from Jedinak but he made an error soon after in the 76th minute to give Palace the lead.

Ambrose's floated free-kick from the left hand side was fumbled by Jones and Jedinak turned and hooked the ball over him into the empty net.

Palace went in search of another but Jones was equal to shots from subs Glenn Murray and Dean Moxey.

Palace: Speroni, McShane, McCarthy, Gardner, Parr, Ambrose (Moxey 80), Garvan, Jedinak, Zaha, Easter (Murray 71), Martin.

Not Used: Price, O'Keefe, Appiah.

Peterborough: Jones, Little, Zakuani, Kearns (Ball 87), Briggs, Alcock, McCann, Rowe, Boyd, Barnett, Taylor (Sinclair 60).
