Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace were well beaten by Championship leaders Southampton 2-0 at St Mary's Stadium.

Guly do Prado netted twice for the Saints to preserve their unbeaten home record and maintain their lead at the top of the table.

The hosts started brightly as Julian Speroni had to react well to block Ricky Lambert's header from point-blank range after nine minutes.

And they took the lead in the 34th minute when Steve de Ridder skinned Peter Ramage down the right wing and crossed for Do Prado to head past Speroni.

Do Prado and Adam Lallana with a decent shot almost added to the scoreline, while Palace had a rare attempt on goal as Glenn Murray called Kelvin Davis into action.

But the Saints made sure of the points when Frazer Richardson centred for Do Prado to head home his second goal in the 77th minute.

Southampton: Davis, Richardson, Fonte, Hooiveld, Fox, De Ridder (Connolly 79), Schneiderlin (Hammond 87), Cork, Lallana, Do Prado, Lambert.

Not Used: Bialkowski, Harding, Martin.

Palace: Speroni, Clyne, McCarthy, Gardner, Parr, O'Keefe (Garvan 76), Ramage (Martin 66), Dikgacoi, Scannell, Zaha, Murray (Easter 83).

Not Used: Price, Ambrose.
