Crystal Palace claimed a priceless away point with a 1-1 draw at Leicester.

Sean Scannell was on target for the Eagles who remain fourth bottom but move six points above the relegation zone.

Palace manager Dougie Freedman surprised many by leaving James Vaughan, Darren Ambrose, Steffen Iversen and Kemy Agustien on the bench.

And it was City who had the first chance of the game with on-loan Fulham striker Diomansy Kamara putting a mis-hit effort wide.

Scannell then fired in the opening goal just past the half hour mark with a long-range shot that moved in the air and beat keeper Chris Weale for his first of the season.

Weale denied Scannell another goal with a decent stop, while Paul Gallagher's free-kick was easily saved by Julian Speroni.

The Foxes were on level terms in the 58th minute through skipper Matt Oakley who volleyed home superbly from the edge of the box past a helpless Speroni.

Yakubu somehow put Darius Vassell's cross over the bar from close range and Speroni saved from Patrick Van Aanholt as the hosts pressed for a winner.

Despite Wilfriend Zaha getting sent off for the Eagles in stoppage time for an apparant touchline stamp on Van Aanholt, Palace held on for a draw.
