Crystal Palace won their third consecutive home game beating Doncester Rovers 1-0.

George Burley made three changes to the side which lost to Sheffield United last week.

Anthony Gardner was drafted in to replace Paddy McCarthy, Darren Ambrose made a welcome return in midfield, and Pablo Counago was chosen to partner James Vaughan up front.

Palace started the match well and pressured the Doncaster defence from the off.

However James Hayter had two good chances for the visitors within the first 15 minutes, both from assists by James Coppinger.

Neil Danns was on target on 24 minutes but his strike was well saved by 40-year-old Neil Sullivan.

Doncaster had further chances that fell to Hayter and David Healy but then Palace took the lead.

After some neat passing Ambrose found Counago in the box and he struck a right-foot shot which evaded Sullivan and put the Eagles 1-0 up.

In the second half Vaughan had an opportunity to put the game beyond doubt when clean through on goal, but Sullivan saved well with his legs.

Counago almost got a second with a lovely chip from the edge of the box, but Sullivan tipped his effort round the post.

Wilfried Zaha struck the post later on, after he dribbled his way into the box.

Doncaster desperately tried to get an equaliser in the final minutes but Palace's defence was resolute and held out until the final whistle.

Palace: Speroni, Gardner, Wright, Davis, Clyne, Ambrose (N'Diaye, 81), Danns, Marrow (Dorman, 14), Vaughan (Obika, 84), Zaha, Counago

Subs not used: Fray, Barrett, O'Keefe, Djilali
