Crystal Palace ended a positive week in disappointment with a 2-1 home reverse to Ipswich Town.

Fans had been celebrating after Palace officially come out of administration and former Holland star Edgar Davids made a shock signing.

But the happy mood soon came to an abrupt end as Ipswich left Selhurst Park with all three points.

The Tractor Boys started the better of the two sides with Julian Speroni saving from Jon Stead, Andros Townsend and Carlos Edwards fired wild efforts and Speroni tipped Stead's cross onto his own bar.

Kieron Cadogan blasted over, but the match turned on its head when Ipswich stole the lead three minutes after the break.

Stead stormed into the penalty box and Claude Davis pulled him back to give away a penalty and get sent off. Grant Leadbitter scored from the spot.

Five minutes later, Leadbitter crossed for Edwards to flick home Ipswich's second.

Town's Gareth McAuley and Palace's Andy Dorman traded chances before Townsend was given his marching orders on 73 minutes for kicking Speroni in the head.

Neil Danns' scored an injury-time header from Nathaniel Clyne's cross but it was all too late.
