Selhurst Park

Crystal Palace were thrashed 4-0 at home to Scunthorpe United.

The destruction began after just four minutes when Matt Lawrence's error put Jonathan Forte clear and he round Julian Speroni to score.

Palace tried to get back into the game as Clint Hill headed Danny Butterfield's cross over and Butterfield himself and then Alassane N'Diaye went close with shots.

Shaun Derry had a 20 yard drive pushed out by Scunthorpe goalkeeper Joe Murphy as Palace continued in search of an equaliser.

Before the interval, Neil Danns and Victor Moses were thwarted by Murphy who kept his side ahead going into the half-time break.

After the restart, Palace continued to push forward with Darren Ambrose looking lively.

But United scored a second goal in the 58th minute when Rob Jones flicked on for Paul Hayes to score at the near post.

Eagles boss Neil Warnock threw on Freddie Sears and Ryan Smith for Ambrose and Moses but the move failed to work as as Scunthorpe made it 3-0 in the 66th minute as Forte set up former Palace midfielder Sam Togwell to rifle home from 12 yards.

Two minutes later, Forte sent over a right wing cross for Michael O'Connor to grab Scunthorpe's fourth goal of the afternoon.

Sean Scannell had a shot blocked before the home side were awarded a penalty with 10 minutes to go after Togwell handled in the area.

However, Murphy saved the spot kick from Sears to sum up Palace's miserable afternoon.

Not Used: Flahavan, Clyne, Ertl, Carle.

Scunthorpe: Murphy, Spence, Jones, Mirfin, Williams, Josh Wright, Togwell, O'Connor (Sparrow 82), Hayes, Woolford (Thompson 76), Forte (Hooper 86).

Not Used: Slocombe, Byrne, Canavan, McCann.
