Clinton Morrison's Republic of Ireland suffered a shock 2-1 reverse to Nigeria in their final home match before the World Cup.

Their two-year unbeaten record at Landsdowne Road was ended and the Irish now head for the island of Saipan on Friday to acclimatise.

Nigeria went in front in the 13th minute through Julius Agahowa and doubled the lead in the 47th minute thanks to Crewe defender Efe Sodje.

Morrison looked lively when he came on as a sub for Robbie Keane on the hour mark as the Irish were trailing 2-0.

Millwall's Steven Reid pulled a goal back for the home side nine minutes later, after an exchange of passes with Morrison.

Three minutes before the end, Morrison crossed for Mark Kinsella, whose shot was parried and Morrison headed the rebound for David Connolly to score. But the goal was ruled out as Morrison had strayed offside.
