Pulis looking to strengthen squad

Tony Pulis is hoping that he can add to his squad before the close of the transfer window.

The former Stoke boss has been frustrated in his attempts to capture certain targets he's been trying to obtain, as he looks to finalise his 25-man squad for the remainder of the season.

He told journalists at his Thursday press conference: "We need to strengthen certain areas and you are hoping in every game from when the window opens that you will have an extra player with you or someone who could help you along the way.

"If anything, this is our third game this month and we have actually gone backwards with injuries and with the fact Cameron Jerome can't play through suspension.

"We have taken a step backwards rather than a step forward which is disappointing but they are a good group of lads and they work really hard."

Pulis admits he would be keen to sign Jason Puncheon on a permanent basis, with the winger currently on a season-long loan from Southampton.

"It is something that we have spoken about," Pulis added.

"I'm not sure it is a deal the football club can afford at the moment, I think what Southampton want and what we are prepared to play is too far apart.

"I also think he has reservations in some respects but hopefully if there was a possibility I would be keen to do it."

Meanwhile Pulis is keen to ship out Jose Campana to a Championship club to gain experience of English football.

The Spanish U21 midfielder featured in early games in the season under Ian Holloway, but has been restricted to playing U21 games for the Eagles for a number of months.

Pulis told the South London Press: "Potentially he is a very, very good player - but he is a little bit immature in terms of games and understanding the style in England.

"Personally, if we get the players in that I want to then I'd recommend him going out on loan to the Championship and getting some experience at that level.

"Technically he is excellent but he has got to get used to the rigours and pace of the game in England.

"I really like him as a lad. He is a lovely fella. But most probably he needs game time. There are a few around our squad of that ilk. They need game time, need to play."
