Mark Goldberg
Former Crystal Palace chief Mark Goldberg says fans should be grateful to Simon Jordan for his efforts over the past 10 years.
Jordan rescued Palace from administration in 2000 after then chairman Goldberg left the club in financial turmoil during his brief reign.
Goldberg knows all too well about the financial implications of running a football club from his time at Palace and sympathises with Jordan.
Goldberg told News Shopper: "I'm obviously devastated for everyone at the club. I've also got the utmost sympathy for Simon because he has supported the club financially for 10 years now. I’m sure most will be grateful to Simon for what he has done during that time.
"Let’s just hope another benefactor will come along and help the club compete again at the top level and give the club real prospects.
"It is a difficult one, though, because in order to compete, you need to pay players’ wages.
"Football is unique in that the percentage of your turnover spent on wages is totally out of context with any other business. It simply wouldn’t happen in any other business."
