Neil Warnock

Not the storming end to the season we had hoped for after going down 2-0 to Doncaster Rovers, reports Jamesey.

Good old Uncle Neil came up with the expected remarks about our bad luck in having three goal attempts hit the goalposts in the first half.

And with a golden opportunity missed as well, the first half looked all Palace - that is until the 45th minute when Donny scored, to go one up.

Never mind, if Neil Warnock's plans come to fruition he will only have another season to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune (terrible referees and linesmen, penalties not given, non-penalties given to the opposition, etc, etc) and he can retire to the West Country, doze in his chair in front of the telly, draw his pension and contentedly dream of all the injustices heaped upon him.

Anyhow, let me say that I did not travel to Yorkshire but listened to the game on Palace World. Unless the commentator got everything seriously wrong we were genuinely having a pretty good match in the first period.

But the sucker punch from Donny in the 45th minute seemed to put the kibosh on getting much else from the game.

Obviously, no amount of hairdryer operation, teacup throwing or plain shouting were enough to push us to a second-half onslaught.

Of course, it wasn't an important game for either side as neither of us were going up or down.

But after that nice little win against Derby County (Apr 18), we were all surely hoping for a decent run-in as a springboard for the start of the 2009-10 campaign.

There is still not, as far as I know, any news of a potential buyer for CPFC, and with the economic gloom deepening by the week it would be a rash entrepreneur who would go into football club chairmanship at present.

I don't know how much Simon Jordan has tied up in business interests in Spain but the recession is even worse there, particularly in the construction industry which is at a standstill.

Unfortunately for Simon, and for we supporters too, we will have to limp along, skint and resourceless, until an unknown benefactor appears from the sidelines and kick-starts the club's fortunes once more.

Regrettably, I will miss our final game at home to Sheffield United on Sunday, May 3. I have a hospital date in mid-May and am grabbing a week's holiday before then.

The Blades are, of course, now guaranteed a play-off position or even an automatic promotion if they win and Brum lose or draw.

Whatever the outcome, it should be a good party atmosphere and, in the Greek islands, on Sunday afternoon I will be sipping my ouzo and chomping at my octopus and thinking of Selhurst. Or perhaps not...
