Crystal Palace suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to league leaders Wolves.

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake grabbed the only goal of the game with a penalty after Clint Hill fouled Michael Kightly in the area with 14 minutes left.

In pouring rain and swirling wind at Selhurst Park, Wolves were on top in the opening stages.

Julian Speroni gobbled up an Ebanks-Blake shot, then Kightly fizzed in a low drive just off target and Speroni had to be alert to save Chris Iwelumo's deflected shot.

Palace almost stole the lead through Paul Ifill when the Eagles winger fired a low free-kick that Wolves keeper Wayne Hennessey did well to dive down to his left and push beyond the post.

Then in the 74th minute, Ebanks-Blake put Wolves ahead for his 22nd goal of the season from the penalty spot.

Despite the introduction of new loan signing Anthony Stokes plus John Oster and James Scowcroft, Palace had no answer.

At the death, George Friend may have added another but could not convert Ebanks-Blake's cross.

Palace: Speroni, Clyne, Lawrence, Jose Fonte, Hill, Derry, Danns, Hills (Oster 67), Scannell (Stokes 61), Ifill, Lee (Scowcroft 77).

Not Used: Ertl, Rui Fonte.

Wolverhampton: Hennessey, Foley, Craddock, Berra, Hill, Kightly (Stearman 90), Henry, Edwards, Friend, Iwelumo (Vokes 89), Ebanks-Blake (Keogh 84).

Not Used: Darren Ward, Reid.
