Eagles held in stalemate

Crystal Palace had to settle for a goalless draw against QPR at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles had the first opportunity when on-loan West Brom striker Craig Beattie hit a shot that was easy for keeper Radek Cerny.

Daniel Parejo almost scored for Rangers but he fired Patrick Agyemang's left-wing cross wide of the goal.

Ben Watson lashed a long-range strike that flew just past the upright then Cerny comfortably claimed a Sean Scannell effort before Nick Carle fired a shot that deflected wide.

Eagles stopper Julian Speroni had to be alert to dive down low at the feet of Agyemang who threatened to score.

While opposite number Cerny made a superb block to keep out Paul Ifill's ferocious volley from the edge of the area just before half-time.

Heidar Helguson was thrown on for his Rangers debut in the second half and he wasted a gilt-edged opportunity to break the deadlock by fizzing a shot off target with the goal at his mercy.

Dexter Blackstock looped a shot onto the top of the net, while Palace responded with a header from sub Shefki Kuqi that Cerny saved and Scannell diverted a chance wide.

Agyemang spooned Martin Rowlands' cross well over Speroni's goal and Helguson nodded off target.

And Palace could have won it inside stoppage time, but Cerny was on hand to thwart Beattie.
