How did the Crystal Palace players rate on the first game of the season?
Speroni 8
Clean sheet and made a superb diving save from Jobi McAnuff in the first half to keep Palace in the game.
Butterfield 6
Solid display from Palace's dependable right-back but distribution needed to be better.
Lawrence 6
Generally handled Tamas Priskin well but looked a little out of sorts, maybe due to missing most of pre-season. Mistake almost resulted in a goal.
McCarthy 6
Good debut for the Irishman and he looks a competent replacement for Mark Hudson.
Hill 6
A typical wholehearted performance with the usual tough tackles but too many hoofs forward.
Derry 6
Palace's new skipper wasn't as influential and failed to take control of a busy midfield.
Carle 6
Showed nice touches but disappointing game for the debutant after so many impressive matches over pre-season.
Moses 7
Probing runs threatened the Watford defence and should have score from two decent opportunities.
Scannell 6
His pace troubled Watford but his end product was not good enough. Was later substituted.
Scowcroft 6
Won a few knock ons but failed to make an impact, as usual giving away a large number of free-kicks. Another who missed a lot of pre-season.
Soares 5
Failed to get involved and looked like he wasn't totally fit.
