Bothroyd proves his point

Peter Taylor was left cursing the one that got away as Jay Bothroyd showed Crystal Palace what they could have had.

Taylor's side were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against 10-man Wolves thanks to a superb double strike from Bothroyd - who had been on trial with Palace last summer.

The former Charlton forward didn't do enough to earn a deal at Selhurst Park, but he was still a real handful for the Eagles defence on Saturday.

Taylor said: "Bothroyd spent pre-season with us but we decided not to give him a contract and he did well today, but that's what happens in football."

At least Taylor could take comfort from Jobi McAnuff's dynamic display. The winger scored Palace's equaliser and had worked so hard he eventually asked to come off.

"Jobi McAnuff was terrific today," Taylor said. "He was cream-crackered when he asked to be taken off but he did some exciting things and got their man sent off - not deliberately - but because his pace takes some holding.

"I thought the players of both teams gave it everything today and you can't ask for much more than that.

"It was a disappointing second half for both teams. We knew Wolves after having a man sent off would be hard to break down.

"We started well and scored a couple of good goals, although I thought we were a bit too pleased with the first one and switched off for the equaliser."
