Jobi McAnuff

Jobi McAnuff

A second half Jobi McAnuff strike earned Crystal Palace a point against 10-man Southampton at St Mary's.

The winger hit home the equaliser on 54 minutes for his third of the season after Chris Baird had put the Saints seven minutes before.

Southampton started the game well with some pot shots on goal which Scott Flinders - in for the injured Julian Speroni - was equal to.

They were dealt a blow after Kenwyne Jones was shown a red card in the 29th minute for violent conduct after a melee.

But Saints upped the tempo with highly-rated teenager Gareth Bale hitting the crossbar with a free-kick after Flinders handled outside the area.

Marco Reich came on for Carl Fletcher at the break, and within two minutes, an unmarked Baird gave Southampton the lead with a close-range header from a corner.

The Eagles hit back as McAnuff robbed Baird on the right and stormed towards goal before slotting home on 54.

Both teams had chances to win it but Palace went home with a hard-earned away point.
