Jamie Scowcroft gets away from Hull's Michael Turner
Peter Taylor had an unhappy return to Hull City as the Tigers scored a last-minute goal to draw 1-1.
The Eagles looked certain to return to London with all three points after former Hull ace Leon Cort scored in the 57th minute.
But Hull defender Michael Turner ruined Taylor's day by bundling home from close range with just over a minute left on the clock.
The home side had a decent penalty appeal turned down in the eighth minute when Craig Fagan's header struck a Palace defender's hand.
Eagles skipper Mark Kennedy curled a free-kick wide before Hull created half-chances from Fagan, Jon Parkin and Mark Yeates, before Michael Bridges forced Gabor Kiraly into a one-handed block.
On the stroke of half-time, Clinton Morrison had a bust-up with Hull's Dean Marney and carried it on with Danny Mills. The row ensued as the players walked into the tunnel and Taylor took Morrison off for Stuart Green for the second half.
Palace looked comfortable throughout and went a goal up in the 57th minute thanks to an excellent finish from Cort for his third of the season.
Kennedy's free-kick wasn't cleared properly by the Hull defence and as the ball arrived at Cort's feet, he struck a sweet shot from 20 yards into the bottom corner.
Parkin blasted off target for Hull and in the last minute, the bottom club won a precious point when Turner hit home Yeates' corner.
Palace: Kiraly, Lawrence, Ward, Cort, Borrowdale, Scowcroft, Watson, Kennedy, McAnuff, Morrison (Green 45), Kuqi (Freedman 77).
Not used: Speroni, Hudson, Hughes.
