Peter Taylor

Peter Taylor is ready to splash the cash as he searches for a new striker.

Eagles boss Taylor is keen to add another forward to his squad and Preston's David Nugent, MK Dons' Izale McLeod and Southend's Freddy Eastwood are high on his wanted list.

Nugent is eyeing a move to the Premiership but if he doesn't get an offer from a top club Taylor will try to land him with a £4m bid.

McLeod is available for £1.5m and Eastwood would cost around £2m.

Taylor said: “We would still like to sign a very good striker. I would think about spending big money if we can agree a deal with the right one.

“I know all about Izale. He’s got great energy and terrific pace, but we haven’t done anything on that yet.

“David Nugent is a contender but it would be wrong of me to talk about other clubs’ players.

“If I bring another striker in he’s going to be different to the ones I’ve got.

"If you look at Scowcroft, Morrison and Freedman they are all different types of players.

“So I would look to be get someone who offers something different to them. Some of them are 10 out of 10 at certain things but not others.”

Taylor also revealed that Jon Macken will only be allowed to join Ipswich on loan when he has brought in a new frontman.

Macken is keen to get regular first team football and would jump at the chance to move to Portman Road.

Taylor added: "Ipswich have made an enquiry about Jon. They would like him on loan but we’re not sure if we want anything to happen on that before the window closes. Nothing will happen before this weekend.

“We haven’t got enough strikers here anyway and I was really pleased with the way Jon played in the reserves on Wednesday night. He scored a couple of goals and that will do him good.”
