Clinton Morrison
The Eagles moved to within two points off the play-offs with a comfortable 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday.
Palace started the game well with both Dougie Freedman and Clinton Morrison showing their hunger and intent by stretching the Wednesday defence numerous times in the first 15 minutes.
And with Reich and McAnuff terrorising the wings and creating chance after chance, Palace got their reward for continued pressure with a long overdue 17th minute goal from Morrison that was deflected into the corner.
Wednesday’s best chance came in the 29th minute after a mix up between Kiraly and the Palace defence but the threat was eventually wiped out.
Palace continued the pressure to half time by dominating the rest of the half and could have gone further ahead if Soares had done better with his chip after going through 1 on 1 with the keeper.
Iain Dowie’s men started the second half in much the same way that they finished the first, but not after Gabor Kiraly had made a wonderful save after a rifled shot from the aptly named Chris Eagles.
Palace continued the pressure and ferocious pace and deservedly increased their lead to 2-0 after a scrappy, deflected, 1st ever goal from Emmerson Boyce, who impressed in an unfamiliar left back role throughout.
The ever present Morrison and the deadly dangerous Freedman caused chaos for the Sheffield Wednesday defence throughout the 2nd half and proved that they could more than fill the void left by AJ, but sterling performances from McAnuff and Reich on the wings meant that palace cruised to a 2-0 win.
A good, solid all round team performance, that showed more confidence, more passing and the team wanting to play for each other.
