Simon Jordan
After a nail-chewing afternoon against Walsall at home (May 1), Jamesey wonders whether impossibilities could become real... dust off your credit cards for Cardiff?
The thought of two visits to Cardiff in a few weeks is just too heady to believe... yes, I am being ironic and know we are not even in the play-offs yet after our 1-0 victory against Walsall, never mind all the rest of it.
We have well and truly laid the ghost of Palace Old Boys scoring at Selhurst. Emblen, Bradbury and Osborn got nowhere near and despite the dodginess of Tommy's penalty we deserved the victory.
To change direction, I was most interested to read Simon Jordan's programme notes, the first time he has gone into print for many months as far as I can remember.
In my column (Nov 12, 02, "Dear Simon"), I upbraided him for not using an editor and he obviously didn't listen, as his prose is still ungrammatical and confused!
He has, however, discovered the semi-colon which he uses inaccurately all the time. But football chairmen aren't expected to be literate and we really shouldn't complain.
Be that as it may, I certainly find his sentiments far more reasonable and unheated than formerly and his tributes to all the staff at CPFC were quite touching.
We all moan when we can't get through to the box office, or whatever, but Simon is fulsome in his praise for all the backroom staff at Selhurst. And after the list of Oscar-type thank-yous is done, he gets round to us, the fans, "the people I am in this club for".
Many thanks Simon, I, for one, think you deserve a lot of credit and affection despite your many self-inflicted wounds, and I think that with a manager with whom you obviously share a great rapport, we will go places very soon.
