That will be good having a player wearing a shirt with A Bjelland running around

long before the Adverstiser run with it, but I don't think he's done anything particularly wrong in posting it. No wonder journalism is to all intents and purposes dead as a serious form of news reporting. Not only do we have journalists not doing their jobs properly. We have readers making excuses for them. I guess there's not really much incentive to research your stories and write proper news if your readers don't give a toss. Well, to be honest this is one warning I'm almost proud to have. I tell you what, why don't you call someone else a "f**king moron" but this time, maybe someone who can defend themselves properly without fear of losing their job? I'd like to see you call someone a "f**king moron" face to face but I bet you wouldn't! Plenty of people who say things on here they'd never dream to in public to someone...

The funny thing he is calling him that, as he believes he is reporting on a fictitious player. But the truth is there is a real player called Bjelland, who does play for FC Twente, so the report is accurate. Not only was the account of the press conference correct, but the journalist in question did NOT miss the background story i.e. Sun journalist duped into asking about a fictitious player.

Don't worry, when there is bad journalism, I'll happily call him on it, but in this case, he was beaten to the punch by someone else who also saw the conference.

I'm confused. Google thinks Bjelland is a real player, so why are people saying he's fictitious? [Link] Also abusing the Adder journo is pointless. He's only reporting what TP said in his presser, calling him a f*cking moron is way over the top imo.

I was reporting it live on Twitter from the press conference, so lots of fans would have seen it in real time. Then as I said, reporters have to then turn quotes into a story and file them, which is coming across as "slow" when in fact, it's not. I have stories up way before nationals or the likes of Sky Sports have them online following a press conference. Before the club started filming it live on YouTube, there was no other way of knowing what was being said at a press conference unless it was on Twitter or then reported in a story online, say, 30 minutes later.

There seems to be a hard core of people on here wanting to have a pop at you and your paper at every opportunity. As far as I can see you are providing us with info and for that we should be grateful. Ignore the detractors, keep calm and carry on!

Great journalism is surely defined by accuracy, not speed? The point is to get the story right, not to get a half-arsed version out first. I note that Advertiser said having to have your copy cross an editor's desk could result in unnecessary delays. Some would say having to have your copy cross an editor's desk first is the hallmark of a better quality publication that cares about what it prints. There was a time when this was standard practice. Like everything else in the age of "I demand everything now," media thoroughness has fallen by the wayside in pursuit of speed. Ironic that many of those who criticised (and in some cases rightly) my own impatience over our transfer activity are now defending a similar lack of patience but in another arena. You can't have it both ways. I don't have much respect for the modern media but I come by my disrespect far more honestly than I come by judgments on how to run a football club having at least been there, seen that, and got the t-shirt. And I'd quite happily debate my conclusions face-to-face (since someone asked).
