For balance yesterday's line up was the one that dominated West Ham apart from Tomkins for Guehi who is able to carry the ball forward and pass well with both feet. I think Silva mentioned Tomkins was targeted in his post match.

Amidst the justified moans and groans a few on here have pointed out what we have known all season 1. We can't pass the ball I would add that no homework was done on Mitrovic, he is a sly often dirty player and reaped his reward against a gullible Tomkins.

I wouldn’t disagree with any of this, but worth noting that the only difference between the starting XI yesterday and the team who beat West Ham 2-1, and more than matched them for 90 minutes, was Tomkins replacing Guehi. Is Tomkins that bad? Fulham that good? Or did we just look rusty and half asleep for the whole game ..Tomkins is nowhere near match fit and we lost Mitchell after 34 mins making us a player short, how many times have we watched us start as we did against Fulham and then after about half an hour start to slowly improve and then have a real good go in the second half?

Agree, Ayew is the sort of player we very badly need on the pitch especially now, do not and never will understand the shit some fans fire at him. He created our best moment at Forest and was very unlucky not to score yesterday! Edited by Tickled pink (27 Dec 2022 2.12pm)

No amount of homework can help a team like ours when reduced to ten and Fulham to some degree made us play the way we did.

I would have been fuming after yesterday's game at that performance in isolation. But it followed the pre World Cup match at Forest that was well below standard too. So there appears to be little that has been learned in between those games. Another shocker at Bournemouth and we will have a real problem. We lack strength in depth. For example our centre backs have no genuine competition for their places. Instead we wheel Tompkins out for the occasional cameo and unsurprisingly he struggles. Midfield is a shambles with no balance to it. Up front it would appear that Vieira has lost faith in both Edouard and Mateta. As I mentioned on another thread, it's a worry that Parish seems to think this squad needs little help in the second half of the season. Saturday's game has grown in importance now.

We will see how much the gaffer has learnt when he puts out his chosen 11 with Bournemouth as opposition. PS! Anyone know what has happened to keeper Johnstone? Out injured for 2 months with a coccyx issue

Hughes to beef up the midfield. Hmmmmm More of a thin frying steak I reckon but he deserves a chance, he can’t be less effective than Schlupp, Eze and Olise were yesterday. Of course we all know Eze/Olise can be superb and Schlupp can be a very effective impact player, but only in front of an effective defensive midfield. I would be tempted to go 4-4-1-1 next game. Guaita Eze needs to be the link up player, Ayew and Zaha providing the width and Doucoure/Hughes holding.

How many times did he lost the ball or passed to a Fulham player_ I lost count and if we need him on the pitch, we ARE in trouble.

I’m no Ayew fan, but he does get stuck in and until Olise can put in the same effort and defensive work then Ayew edges it on the right, certainly for the first 60 minutes. If you could morph the best attributes of Ayew and Olise you would have a very good player.
