There were a lot also who watched Speroni's final games through rose-tinted specs, great clubman, blah blah blah etc etc, but past his best, flapping at good number of balls, often worth a goal to the opposition. His kicking is outstanding and is a big plus. For a big chap I’ve never felt he controls his box enough but he is a good keeper. Far better than Butland at the moment but then poor Jack isn’t what he was. Maybe he will grow back into a special keeper but I believe it will take time. I hope Guaita can avoid injury for many months.

The keeper also instills confidence in his defence.

In the last season before Guaita came along and took over the position, Wayne had played well and made fewer errors than previously, and was a bit unfortunate to lose his place, although I accept that Guaita has earned being first choice. Unfortunately people like to hang on to their perceptions and prejudices and Hennessey has been tagged by them as being a blunder waiting to happen, and ever more shall be so.

For all the stick he gets, he was a £3m signing to play understudy for Speroni in 2014. Going back to 2004. We've managed to get incredible value out of our goal keepers. Vessen - Loan
