I thought this might happen if we offered a contract on reduced terms. I suppose it's to be expected as a player ages but for someone of Yohan's quality, I don't blame him for being affronted. It certainly didn't give the impression that we valued the great contribution he has made for Palace - he reads the game so well and can pick out a key pass that others would miss. Thanks for everything Yohan, it's going to be a harder season without you.

Gone for the cash. The standard is really poor. He would be challenged more signing for Dulwich Hamlet. What a waste of talent. Clearly sees the money as the lure not the football what a shame.

And yes; I’ve lived there.

He has been great for us, but we would have needed to replace him shortly anyway, and with the cash freed up, maybe we can replace him this window. Where has Wilshere gone now?

I can't blame him for wanting a last big payday. TBF as others have pointed out he can't get through 90 mins in the EPL now so its probably the best for both parties. He will be difficult to replace but we did have periods where he wasn't available so we'll be OK. A great player and a good servant to Palace - I wish him all the best.

Make no mistake. This is a huge blow for us and it is imperative we replace him. He’s the one player we have in the team who can bring the ball down and play. People keep referring to Riedewald as his replacement and I just don’t understand the logic behind it. I love Jairo, and he should definitely feature more for us. But he is a centre half turned holding midfielder. They are entirely different players.

Have to say Wilshere looks more attractive now though he has shown little interest in joining us
