Not strictly Palace, but may be of interest Brighton conceded 16 goals from corners - worst ever by a club in a Premier League season Not that we were much better with 10. We only allowed 2 in 2015/6 when Dann Delaney were centre-back pairing

Not a record as such, but I like the fact we were the first team to stop Man City scoring in the PL, in their goal scoring record season. Not so good, but we also extended the longest non-winning streak any PL team has against another PL team (Man Utd)

Palace scored 12 of their 45 goals after the 80th minute. At 26.7%, the highest proportion of any team this year in EPL

Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |

Speropni was the oldest player to appear in the Premier League this season - but just 40th all-time Another of our ex-goalies, John Burridge, was 43 when he played his last game For Man City

At the end of November, after 14 rounds Palace were bottom of the league with just 8 goals. Manchester United had 32

There has been a growing trend towards not putting a player on both posts, with a preference instead to leave one or both unguarded. One of the reasons is to use a corner conceded as a platform from which to launch your own counter-attack. Andre Villas-Boas and Brendan Rodgers, were among those to first use this tactic in the PL. They believe opposing teams are at their most vulnerable when taking a corner. Furthermore,by putting players on the post this leaves less players in the box to defend a header or to block off runners and there is also the offside implication when teams use more complex corner taking routines with multiple touches. At Leeds defending corners, Garry Monk had his best headers of a ball not marking man-to-man but free so they didn't get blocked off. Tim Sherwood has said that generally the best headers of a ball are stationed at the near post. Anyway this is getting into tactics and the thread is about trivia ! Edited by Willo (18 May 2018 12.02pm) I think you can fairly claim that as trivia, Willo, although I'm not sure how accurate it is. However, I would think that only 3% of goals come from properly defended corners. A team that makes as great an arse of defending a corner as we did against Spurs, for example, could clearly concede any number of goals at corners. Putting men on the posts does mean they must move smartly if the ball goes out of the box and posession is lost because otherwise they play a striker onside.
