There are 16 league games to play that is 48 points at stake. We will need to put a good run together to get at least 20 points more but I don't think that is beyond our players.

But where is this mysterious Allardyce factor? He has had time to sprinkle at least some fairy dust but all I see by way of difference is that we have adopted a tactic which appears to involve not scoring. I think our problem now sits with another chairman who however well intentioned finds himself finally out of his depth and discovering that running a premier league club defies the normal rules of business.

We need to start improving or we are down. If we get twice as many points from our remaining games as we got from games already played - which I think would be quite significant improvement - we will finish with 39 points.
