I was surprised when we lost 2 defenders in the summer in hangeland and marriappa and only replaced them with one defender. With Soaure out for at least 5 months and tomkins injury prone and fryers lack of game time since being at palace. This leaves us very vulnerable in this position. McArthur RB

Unfortunately Pardew has an obsession with only buying attacking players or midfielders. When we do buy a good defender like Tomkins, we let at least two other players go. Hangeland was clearly going to retire, but Mariappa is good enough to be a squad member in a good Premier League team. We should have tried to sign someone like Kieran Gibbs anyway, because even though we did not know at the time that Pape Souare was going to end up out for six months, it was obvious that Fryers would not provide adequate competition for Pape, so left back was a priority for me

Lady Luck has told us to stop trying to risk it every time that's for sure. Hopefully there'll be no more injuries until Dann is back in hopefully a few weeks. No one had better get sent off, last man or not.

Sunderland in 2 days and Everton in 8 days so hopefully Tomkins will be back. West Ham isn't for 24 days so hopefully Dann will be back on at least the bench for that but o rushing him back. Can't Cabaye and Ledley lie about niggling injuries? Add Jimmac to that if Strachan has finally heard of him. And Benteke having a serious illness.

No Dann, no Tomkins and Defoe to deal with - does not look too good. Would like to see a back 4 of: Ward - DD - Kelly - Ledley. No Fryers please - then it can be ugly!!
