Consistently good from corners/free kicks today, not one bad one. Shows the difference it makes as we have good ability in the air and will score more if punch keeps putting in quality balls.
its a town full of losers, i,m pulling outta here to win |

And Townsend's free-kicks were good too.

I'm not a puncheon fan, but after MacArthur I thought we was our best player. Shows he can do it, need consistency now.

Our set piece delivery yesterday was excellent. Both Punch & Townsend sending in top quality balls for our bigmen to get on to. Carry on like this and we will score at will against anyone!

On his day, Puncheon is a cracking player. I wish he'd have a higher percentage of good days. If Pardew can work out what makes Puncheon have a good day then we're golden. Some theories: As above, does he have a bad day playing alongside Cabaye? Does he react well or badly to having competition for his position? Does he only play well in certain formations? I don't know the answer, just trying to fathom how he can be quite so hit and miss. I really like the guy by the way and would love to see him play consistently well.

PTJ the opposition. Well yeah, good shout. I am trying to think back to which games he has played well in but my memory isn't encyclopaedic enough to know whether there is any correlation there or not. Could well be.

Punch had a good game (despite the bloke in block W row 31 constantly slating him and then conferring with his 10 year old boy in an attempt to substantiate his argument!) However, every single one of his deliveries was a floated, safe-as-houses ball articulated to tee up the phenomenal prowess possessed by our big men - and against a quite frankly god awful Stoke defense. This technique isn't really that difficult, nor that effective if you don't have a colossus to aim at. Puncheon is always an interesting one to talk about, my own opinion of him blows hot cold (more often hot though) but I don't think he did anything of note today to warrant his own thread, certainly not on the deliveries front. Andros Townsend on the other hand...

Agreed, and he had a good game = but pro footballers should be able to deliver the ball onto a sixpence time after time.

I said in another post he played well but I feel he is going to be one of the next on the upgrade list.He is very talented but he lacks two things that imo will mean he becomes a squad player by the start of next season. I am convinced we will be looking for an out and out No. 10 come January, one with pace to go past people and be direct.I do wonder whether AP saw Remy as a possible option because the lad is extremely mobile and has a good footballing brain but I'm sure if we can get the right player it will add another dimension to our game going forward.

You get a better Punch' when he's got a point to prove. FA Cup final as one example and from Sunday, he visibly had the ump that AT was taking the free kick that resulted in Tomkins' goal. His eye for a pass and execution is superb. Not to mention the running he does off the ball to create space for others. Pards' job to work out how to get him playing like that from the off, not just when something gets his back up.
